Never look directly at the Sun through optical devices or with the unaided
eye! It can result in permanent eye damage or even BLINDNESS.
    General use
Levenhuk 320\D320L biological microscopes are designed for observations of specimens in
transmitted light. They may be used in many scientific fields, including biology, ecology,
medicine and veterinary science, as well as for technological research and school presentations.
    Parts of the microscope
Base. It supports the weight of the microscope and houses the illumination source, electronics
    and control mechanisms.
Arm. This piece holds the base, the stage and the head of the microscope together. This
microscope has coaxial coarse and fine focusing systems with an adjustment lever and a locking
mechanism, which provides for smooth vertical movements of the stage.
Rack-and-pinion mechanism. The stage with the condenser is moving along this column, which is
mounted on the arm of the microscope. For additional precision, a condenser may be aligned
    separately.
Eyepieces. Wide FOV eyepieces (WF10x and WF16x) are used in this microscope.
Revolving nosepiece. This quadruple nosepiece allows you to change objective lenses smoothly
    and easily.
    Objective lenses. High-quality achromatic objective lenses with 4x, 10x, 40x (S) and 100x (S, oil
immersion) magnifications provide for sharp and bright images.
Stage. Sturdy and reliable stage with a specimen holder that can be used to move your slides
    while observing them.
Condenser. Abbe condenser with 1.25 N.A. iris diaphragm.
    Using the microscope
Insert an eyepiece into the monocular head and attach objective lenses to the revolving
nosepiece in ascending order. Place a specimen in the middle of the stage and hold it in place
    with stage clips.
Connect your microscope to a power outlet and adjust the brightness of illumination.
When you finish your observations, always dim the illumination before unplugging the
    instrument.
Start at the lowest magnification and center the observed specimen. Afterwards, switch to a
higher magnification by rotating the revolving nosepiece. If the image is out of focus, you can
use the fine focus system. When using a 100x objective lens, you have to fill the space between
the lens and the specimen with immersion oil. There should be no air bubbles in the oil, as this
will reduce the resulting quality of the image. For the best quality of your views, illumination has
to be carefully adjusted. When switching to a different objective lens, you will most likely have
to readjust the iris diaphragm and the illumination brightness.
If you need to change the light bulb, unplug your microscope, wait for the bulb to cool and
change it. Note that the lamp has to be leveled and inserted all the way to the end.
Using the oil immersion objective lens
Before observing at high magnifications with a 100x objective lens, you have to place a drop of
immersion oil on the specimen and the objective lens itself. You can do it with a glass tube or a
dropper. A vial of oil is supplied with the microscope.
